British Citizenship

Hi everybody,
First of all happy new year I wish everybody all the best for 2012, and all your dreams come true.
I have a question regarding the British citizenship; I am going to apply for citizenship in a few days via (nationality checking service) and as far as I know that the process might take 6 months max to process the application, therefore I need to know whether I can travel (abroad during this process to see my old parents).In case there is a possibility, how many days could be allowed to be outside UK?
I will appreciate your help and will mean alot to me when you provide me the correct answer.
