Hi all,
Thank you for taking the time to read my question :).. so here goes:

My father was born in kenya and registered as a british citizen (with the right of abode) in 1973. Please keep in mind, kenya got her independence around 1964. His parents at that time were both british subjects.
My dad then gave up his citizenship in 1979 inorder to keep his kenyan citizenship.
My question is, can my dad apply to get his citizenship back? if so, what is the process and what are the requirements.
Any help or advise would be highly appreciated.

Thank you
Regards
shy.

Yes, your Dad can be able to register to resume British citizenship or citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies using application form RS1 if you had previously given it up (renounced it).
See: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/briti ... tizenship/
Also your Dad will not have to renounce his Kenyan Citizenship as Kenya recently promulgated (August 2010) a new constitution that allows dual nationality. :)

Thank you for your quick response oscar22 :D
i went through the link you provided and it seems pretty straight forward. however, there is a requirement of my dad's copy of declaration of renounciation certificate which he does not have i.e he's misplaced it! and they're also asking for the certificate number from his registration certificate when he initially registered as a british citizenship. He does not have that either!! :oops he's only got his old british passport copy which has the renounciation stamp on it.
I don't suppose anyone would know where i can obtain copies of these documents required?? im sure the embassy would have records?? i have tried contacting the national archives but they haven't got anything. :(
