i recently just got refused british citizenship because of an unspent conviction (fine of £500 at a magistrate court) , and also because of insufficient evidence of my residence to cover the first 10 years of my life in the UK (1988-1998).
Can you please help/advice me on what steps to take next and how to be succesful with obtaining citizenship?

Have you got ILR? If yes, when did you get that?
The unspent conviction, was that mentioned on the application form AN? What was the criminal offence?

I do not have IRL. I was born in the UK 1988 but both my parents were not citizens nor settled in the UK so I wasn't entittle to citizenship. The conviction was not mentioned in the AN. The offence was 'driving without insurance'.
I wasn't aware of the fine when I made my application, I have currently made plans to pay off the fine next week

Obtain more evidence to cover your
first 10 years in the UK.
Wait until
conviction is spent.

How did you answer Q3.8 on the form AN :-
3.8 Have you ever been charged or indicted inside or outside the United Kingdom with a criminal offence for which you have not yet been tried in court?
You have told us :-
I wasn't aware of the fine when I made my application
-: but when you applied, had you been charged with the offence?

Vinny, thanks for pointing that out. I have looked at that form. Q3.8 is exactly the same on the form T as on the form AN.
So NYB, how did you answer Q3.8 on the form T?
