Optimum ILR route for USA citizen married to UK citizen.

Hi everyone,

I am a British citizen and I'm in the USA on a B1 visa. I am getting married (in the US) to a US citizen at the end of the year and we will be moving to the UK just before Christmas.

Please could you give us some advice on the smoothest way to accomplish this. We intend to live in the UK for the foreseeable future. I have done some research online but not found any satisfactory answers to some questions.

I have a few questions that I hope you might be able to help with...

1. What type of visa should she enter the UK on initially?

2. Is it similar to entering the US - in that if you don't have a visa you have to have evidence of a return flight? (We want to avoid having to do this as we have no return plans as yet.)

3. Is the process called 'Settling' what we need to apply to do?

4. What are the restrictions on working for her during the adjustment of status?

5. Are there any requirements of me for this process? I saw something about needing to prove a certain level of finances but I'm unsure if that applied to this process.

6. Can anyone give an indication of timeline or fees?

Any other pointers you could give, resources or cheap lawyer suggestions, we'd be really grateful.
