Newbie question-Brazil national living in UK

Post by sturgeon » Sun Mar 23, 2014 8:16 pm

Hi,

A friend of mine is from Brazil and has lived here around 6 years. His mother re-married, her husband is Portugese and they've been living in this country for at least 5 years as far as I know. He is 22 years old and his sister also lives here, he has right to work freely, UK bank accounts etc and considers the UK his home.

He's mentioned he does have to get his visa renewed once a year but apparently his mum is now able to change that so they don't need to go through that process anymore.

Whilst his mother has the right to live here as she's married an EU resident, is he able to stay here permanently, now he's over the age of 18, just because his mother is here? Does he have a good chance of being able to stay here just because he's been here a number of years?
