Approved English Language Test ILR

Hi again, Urgent!!!

I have the Grade2 GESE Entry level cert. in ESOL (Speaking and listening)(Entry 1) A1 of the CEFR which I used for previous application as a spouse. Will this be valid for ILR as I can see HO is demanding for B1 and above.

Any suggestions pls???

As the above poster has directed you, the A1 test cannot be used as the requirements for ILR is B1 CEFR.

You'll have to do the GESE Grade 5 test, or the IELTS Consortium or one of the ESOL tests on the OFQUAL register at level B1 (Entry 3 or above) in order to qualify. I would stick with the GESE Grade 5 by Trinity as it's just a 10 minute test and the most straight forward one.

LIUK is also required in addition to the English test.

..But to be honest a lot of things are confusing with the HO..they said and I quote

''Spouse & partner: If you intend to apply under the spouse and partner route you must provide evidence that you have passed the speaking and listening components of a test at
level A1 or above. You do not need to demonstrate reading and writing skills. Where a test examines all four components (speaking, listening, reading and writing) you do not
need to pass the reading and writing components, you only need to evidence passing the speaking and listening components.''

If I am applying for ILR as a spouse of a settled person, is this not applying under the above route???

Again they said:

''Settlement: If you intend to apply under the settlement route you must provide evidence that you have passed the speaking and listening components of a test at level B1 or above.
You do not need to demonstrate reading and writing skills. Where a test examines all four components (speaking, listening, reading and writing) you do not need to pass the
reading and writing components, you only need to evidence passing the speaking and listening components.''

I know I am settling but the route is what is confusing here...

In summary:

Spouse visa/extensions English at Level A1 of the CEFR
ILR and BC English at Level B1 of the CEFR.

Requirement differ for the above. LIUK is a requirement for ILR/BC but not for any visa category.

***Will the Academic IELTS surffice for ILR/BC since its higher and also give a chance to study once a good grade is achieved ???

The requirements for English changed on 6 April 2015. The new SELT list (Home Office's approved list) now only accepts qualifications from Trinity college or the Cambridge IELTS consortium if taken after 6 April 2015. The old list know as the transnational list had more qualifications and is still being accepted until 5 November 2015 but only for qualifications taken before 6 April 2015.

Apart from this, ESOL qualifications are also accepted if they are on the OFQUAL register.

To make it clearer, will IELTS Consortium covers if I need to do a postgraduate course in future?

Also on the IELTS web it doesnt say that the academic can also be presented for ILR visa applications.

***and one thing I have noticed is that the expiry of the qualification has been rounded to 2yrs..it used to be indefinite from Cambridge.
