Dependant on skilled work visa - English requirement

Post by KimD » Wed Dec 04, 2024 9:08 pm

Hello,
I am a dependant on a skilled worker visa and applying ILR for 5 years route. My partner recently settled & was successful.
Does the dependent (me) need to do the English test or is a degree certificate (from South Africa) sufficient? My husband did not need to do it due to the type of visa he was on.

Refer to this web link: https://www.gov.uk/english-language
What was your husband's exemption?
Easiest:
For ILR you normally need an English test - B1 (can also support your naturalisation application if you aim for it).
Degree:
It could be used if taught in English, and it needs an Academic Qualification Level Statement (AQUALS) from Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC) confirming the degree is equivalent to a UK qualification. But taking the B1 test is much easier/quicker than obtaining the statement (and costs the same as the test).
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
