Can I please get some advice regarding my friends immigration situation which is stressing her.

She applied for a post graduate visa and she was denied and she seeked asylum and spent a year with out a visa until a decision was made and she was given 5 years visa.

She wants to apply for ILR and she has been adviced that she will not be eligable to apply for the ILR due to the year gap were she did not have a visa but by then she was seeking asylum.

Could you please advice??

On what basis does she want to apply for ilr? When you say she was given a 5 year visa do you mean she was granted refugee status and given leave to remain for 5 years?

Yes she was given refugee status now she wants to apply ILR on the basis of her being in the UK for ten years. Can she get ILR through that even though she had a year gap and ison a refugee status?
