1. As One wise person said' "if you don't know what to say, then you shouldn't need to say anything.
2. If the form doesn't ask for a cover letter, chances are the CW is not expecting one either.
Having said that, what do you need a cover letter for? What 'additional' bit of information are you going to include?

Hi
I strongly agree with WP_ILR to be honest with you I will never ever like to give any single documents which is not officially required by UKBA. Why should I dig a bloody big hole for my self by writing a covering letter and increasing the work for the CW to have a look at an extra documents which in turns gave the CW a good chance to extract some thing out from that covering letter which you might be thinking that you're writing in your favour but actually it'll turn back on you.
So in summary my advice is that dont go for a covering letter if its not required by the UKBA.
Hope this will answer your question.

My reasoning behind it is: I though it would help for an explanation for some of my earnings. I am self employed and a director of another company.
I wanted to explain that my wages from the PAYE are seen as a transfer and not as a payment from my business acc X to my personal acc Y (you only see the account numbers on the statements which I am providing both business and personal)
I also have a self employed bank account with which I wanted to explain that my one client pays their bill in bulk payments for separate invoices, eg: 12 invoices, 3 separate payments.
I thought this would help the CW in case they have questions.
What you think.
Cheers

Hi
To be honest with you mate by the looks of it you're diging a bloody big hole for your self trying to explain all that client payment scenario to the CW it just sounds so confusing to any one. The CW is only concerned with your earinings coming to your bank account which you have I think then I dont think so that your letter will do any help to the CW as the CW is not really concerned that where the money is coming from any what are the methods of payments your clients are using.
If it makes you comfortable you can go head with that.
