Advice on FLR to ILR for my wife

My wife is in uk since 2001, first on student dependent than from 2006 on work permit dependent. Since oct 2010 she is on spouse residence permit. The trial period is ending by sept 2012.
During these two years due to her parents illness and death, she has to remain outside uk for most of the time.
I got my citizenship from October 2011 and moved to work with British uni in China. Hence my family also moved with me to China
My queries are:
1. Can my wife apply for ILR from China on the basis of working for British firm abroad?
2 is she eligible to apply for ILR straight away even she has not been able to live in uk during the probationary period? (considering her dependent visa status since 2006)
Appreciate any suggestions in this matter.
