I am applying for ILR this october, I know I need to give life in UK test, but does my wife, who is a dependent on me, need to give the test too?

Everyone (barring a few excptions for age and disability) applying for ILR must have passed the appropriate test.

But my dependent is not yet eligible for ILR, they will just be a dependent on my visa, do they still need to give the exam?

I guess there is no harm to get the exam cleared just be on the safer side.

Your dependents will only need to pass the "Life in the UK Test" before they apply for ILR. If you are not applying together then they need not pass the exam at the same time as you.

Having said that, be aware that the test is due to change next month, so you may find it easier to prepare & pass the test together.

I am applying ILR and my wife is a dependent but she has only been in UK for about 1yr and 5 months, If I choose as dependent will my wife get ILR or just a dependent visa?

In this case does she need to write Life in Uk as well?

See Q12 & Q13 under the following sticky: http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=79378
She does not need to take the Life in the UK Test if applying for a dependent visa. It's only required for ILR & Naturalisation.
