10 Years Student -ILR

Hi all,

I have tried to search through the forums but was unable to find a solution to query. (I might have missed it)

I entered the country in September 2003 on a Student visa and since then I have renewed it three times and my current student visa expires 31st August 2013. As I was in school during the first 5 years of my student visa, I would regularly fly back to Malaysia. Looking through my passport I do not have any dates leaving the country, just entering which makes it hard for me to determine how many days in total I have been out of the country. As I have always had a valid student visa when leaving and entering the country, do my days away matter?

As I will be graduating next year, most grad schemes I have been applying for ask if I have a valid work visa. Legally I should say no as I don't, does anyone know of any other way around this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I m in the similar situation as u
But i do know how many days i have spent outside in the 10 years period
Which is over 30 months
I just found out that during the 10 years period u cannot leave Uk for more than 6 months at once, and the total length of period spent outside Uk during the 10 years cannot exceed 18 months
Which means i won't be able to apply for ILR under 10 years long residence
So have a calculate how many days u spent outside Uk in this period !
Good luck !

When you fly out of the UK you do not go through any passport/immigration control (as you do in most other countries), it only happens when you enter the UK, hence you've got UK entry stamps but no exit stamp. However, you should have entry stamps of the country you were going to, which should be enough to determine when you left the UK.

As I would be usually be going back to Malaysia my home country, they do not stamp the passport as they are all electronic and only require a thumb print verification.

Did you keep airline tickets and boarding cards?

Nope, never did I think I would one day require it. Am I basically buggered here?

Hi,

I'd like to revive this topic if possible. I'm also a Malaysian that first entered the UK back in Aug 2003 and am considering to apply for the 10 yr Long Residence ILR.

I have records of all entries into the UK in my passports (UK immigration stamps) but there are no records of exits from the UK or entry stamps into Malaysia ( as mentioned in a previous post).

How does one go about proving the days absent from the UK (assuming no flight tickets / boarding passes)?

Thanks.
