ILR Based on Less than 10 Years?

Hi,
I have heard from a friend that ILR can be issued to someone who has been in the UK for 8.5 years and has a family, and his children are going to school.
How true is this statement? I am asking this because my Leave to Remain will expire when my stay in the UK will be 9.5 years.
I am disparately waiting for expert advice on this issue.
Many Thanks!

Only your friend can tell you how true that statement is. In your own case an extension might be necessary.

Well, I know a person who is just 12 days short and have a family too, yet he applying for extention to bridge the gap.

There is a policy for children who has spent 7 years in the UK, but this does not confer ILR. It only confers a Discretionary leave for 30 months.
It may help to cover the gap, and if they take more than 7 months to make a decision, you could vary the application to the 10 years long residency, and then apply for you children after a successful application.
