Lost passport (and Tier 1 visa with only 2 months left)

I recently lost my passport (with Tier 1 visa) while travelling. My Tier 1 visa was due to expire at the start of March 2013 after which I am eligible for ILR. Does anyone know whether I need to reapply for a new Tier 1 replacement visa before applying for ILR? I note it will probably take me a few weeks just to get my replacement passport and by the time that comes and I then apply for the replacement visa the time it will well and truly be time to apply for ILR.
When I entered UK on my emergency passport I did not require the (paper) visa as the immigration officers already had my records in the back office.
As an aside since I no longer have the lost passport will the UKBA need some additional evidence of my travel during the last few years?
Thanks in advance!
