Address and cohabitation proof-please help

Hi all,
I need advise about proof of address and cohabitation. I recently changed job from midland to south of England but my wife works in midland; our main place of residence is currently in midlands and we plan to buy a house there too. I am commuting every weekend or on few occasions by-weekly. I am the main holder of tier1 visa and my wife is my dependant & we are eligible for ilr in little more than a year. We need to register with the police as well. At this moment our police registration address is our midland place and we have city council and utility bill in our name there.
My questions are:
if I rent a place in south and register for our city council, utility bill, police address etc. here with our names, is this better (even though my wife is occasionally here)? Or can I keep our official address for police registery, bills and etc. in midland and continue with that (and then when we apply for ilr and I'm the man person, my place of work and place of residence are far apart)?
Generally speaking I am confused with my situation and I don't know where we stand or what should we do about the cohabitation and proof of address, please help I really appreciate your guides specially from gurus please.
Thanks a lot

IMHO
This depends on what address you want to apply your ILR from & where are you going to show your earnings proof from.
If you are showing from address in South, then you need have her name in south, if you are showing from midlands address then ur current arrangements seems fine.

Are you planning to stay in the south until applying for ILR? if the answer is yes, then you have to register for your city council, utility bill, police address etc in your new address in the south because you are the main applicant and I would suggest contact UKBA to advise on your wife situation as your dependant working in midland and see what they say you need. You definitely need to call and see what's required!

Thank you stokbrig, can you please let me know how can I contact ukba for this matter (what email address or tel number)? And is it wise to ask the matter direct from them?
Is this not usual that some couples end up working in different cities? We both do specialist jobs with good salaries, & my wife can easily get tier2 if she wants, but as she has been my dependant for the last 7 years we don't want her visa category changes because we are worried if her visa category changes the clock starts again from zero for her. If gurus could also comment I would really appreciate.

As long as you're both registered at the same address and it's your main residence then the usual bank statements, utility bills etc proving cohabitation should be sufficient, however, I would suggest to call UKBA just to confirm.Tel. 08706067766.
Keep me posted if you get any news. Thanks

I would suggest , for the sake of consistency, that keep your address proof same as on the bank statements. Make sure council bill, utility bills bear the same name. Police registration am not too convinced as that's not mandatory requirement in the list of docs for ILR. Better register for votes with local electoral (with same council) and that's good proof as well for both of you.
It doesn't matter where you work in the UK.

First off,how can they register for votes? Do we have the right to vote before settlement?
Second, UKBA asking for the reasons If you did not live together for any part of the 2-year period and whether you stayed in contact with each other during this time, and provide any relevant supporting evidence.
am not sure what kind of evidence do they need?

I haven't voted in elections here but talking about mayor/commissioner/local council votes. and I am not settled yet, (tier 1 only).
Living together 2 years will be considered if you show council proof, utility bill on both names which you can do with your council.
