Options if ILR is refused?

My postal ILR application is still with the UKBA (4.5 months down) but I'm looking into options for if this gets denied.
As far as I can see these seem to be:
1) Appeal the decision
2) Apply for an extension to my current Ancestral
3) Apply for Ancestral again
Does anyone know of any other options that might be available? Or any implications to the above options?
