Hi there,

Hoping ya'll can help me! I am due to apply for indefinite leave to remain before my ancestral visa expires on the 21st July. The problem is my dad has lost his adoption papers which links me to my granddad who was born here in the UK. Now we are visiting social services in Zimbabwe and they have said they will issue a certified copy, a letter stating they cant issue the original as its the only one on file and my dad will write a letter stating he's lost it. The officials saw the document when I applied for my ancestral visa in the first place, and it's been lost since then.

Will this work?

Thank you :)

I used a certified copy of my mother's adoption papers from South Africa for my ancestral visa and a note explaining that the original is on file with social services hence not being able to submit an original. This was accepted and my parents subsequently used the same certified copies for their visas and were successful.

I would suggest you don't mention 'original lost', keep it simple as explained above.

Thanks

Char
