biometric residence permit and passport expiry

Is the biometric residence permit card and passport connected in terms of expiry. I notice there are no passport details on the card.
My passport expires on 15/03/2015, and the biometric residence permit expires 15/01/2023. Do I need to re-apply for a new residence permit when my passport expires in 2015, or can i still continue to use the permit on a new passport.
Also what would be the process to initiate the residence permit renewal for both cases.

Your BRP and Passport validity periods are independent of each other. You should apply for each independently whenever they expire & you need to travel. I presume you are referring to a Settlement BRP here. You should have received a leaflet with information related to your BRP when you first received it by courier. If not, you will be able to find the the same information and how to apply for a new one when it expires, on the UKBA website.

if you stuck the biometric card onto your current passport with superglue then yes you will need a new card im afraid.
