Travel outside UK after ILR

Hi,

I was granted ILR in Dec-2012 and then had to travel outside UK for work in Feb-2013. Due to my work it looks like I'll be away for atleast a few more months.

As per my understanding the rules are that I can stay outside UK for up to 2 years with the ILR without having any issues in returning. However, I thought it best to confirm with the knowledgeable folks in the forum as they have really helpful while I was preparing for the ILR application.

Is there any rule other than return within 2 years about the duration of stay after receiving ILR?

Best Regards,
sy2012

I'm sure work related absence doesn't affect your stay. As long as UK is your main residence you're good to go.
Also check Returning residents

Thanks iD. Does anyone have an experience of whether they ask for any proof of such absences at the immigration when you return?

they can ask for anything when you return. unless you are a citizen any sort of visa can be taken away anytime for any good reason.

you are allowed 2 years out of uk on ILR.

however these absences will affect naturalisation later on.

If you are keen on applying for naturalisation in Dec 2013 then it could affect your application for BC.

ILR returning residents within 2 years of absence is not a problem

Thanks for your responses. I've not made up my mind about naturalisation so as far as the ILR visa has no issues in me returning within 2 years I'm quite Ok.
