Working before applying for ilr

Hi,
Sorry if this question has already been discussed but I can't find the answer. My wife is on a 2 year spouse visa and will apply for ilr in 8 months. She is working with a 1 year contract due to expire in 3 months. Her employer would like to offer her another contract but is unsure because she is on a temporary visa. She will definitely qualify for ilr but is she allowed to work while the application is being processed and is it legal to offer her a contract that is longer than her current visa. Thanks in advance for any advice.
