hi,

My wife will be arriving in uk in August, I`m English, she`s Japanese.

She has had ILR for about 7 years we have been married for over 11 years.

We lived in UK together for 12 years until march 2012 when we both moved to Japan.

Now we wish to return to the uk, I am already here in the UK, she will arrive in August.

My questions are - what preparation does she need to do to be able to re-enter with her ILR status, what are the pitfalls and does she need to apply for a returning resident visa ?

Thanks for any help or advice

As she is a returning resident returning within 2 years, she doesn't need a visa. However, she should have proof of her ILR status.

If asked, then she should confirm that she seeks admission for the purpose of settlement.

thanks

thanks vinny and guru, that makes me feel a lot easier, I have been reading some horror stories on the web.

By proof of ILR, do you just mean the page in the passport or are you thinking of anything else ?

As you can see my paranoia has not completely gone away yet :)

thanks again

Proof of ilr would be the ilr passport vignette or more recently the BRP.

As you've been absent for less than 2 years your ILR will still be valid

Thank you very much for your reply. Please let me know what are the questions asked by IO.

I got my ILR in 2010. I visited UK twice so far. First visit was after 6 months and 2nd visit after 1 year and now i am going to visit UK after 1 year 8 months. As i told you in my earlier post i am working in middle east to get minimum 4 years experience in oil & gas.

Please let me know what are the questions asked by IO when your wife visit london after 1 year 6 months.

You have already been advised in your other posts

Asking the same question again and again will not change the answers. Short visits to the UK do not keep your ILR going.
