I am in a bad situation. I was schedule to take the Life in the UK test today (01/11) but I was denied sitting in on the test because my middle name was just an initial. My application is due on the 4th of November. I was advised by someone that I could send in a cover letter explaining the situation why I was not able to provided evidence of passing the life in the UK test and hopefully send it in later. Is this true? Has anyone else been in a situation like this? If my application is denied because of this am I able to appeal? Any advice would be helpful and maybe just give me some peace of mind. Thanks.

Probably you have been advised wrongly as because life in uk test plus the new requirement pertaining to english language must be met by everyone applying for settlment categories. You have to fix this issue and have to have life in uk certificate to proceed with application.

Sorry I forgot to include this but I'm from the United States. When I first began the application I contacted the UKBA and they informed me since I'm from an English speaking country that I have already met the English language requirement.
