Hi

Was hoping if anyone had experience with this exam? I am planning on booking this for my spouse for the purposes of ILR next year.

The new approved English list of centers/qualifications state this requirement for B1 in PET exam is:

"Pass or pass with merit and

Listening - Borderline
Speaking - Borderline
Reading - Borderline
Writing - Borderline

The confusion I have is, if my spouse gets an overall "FAIL" for the exam but gets the required "Borderline" for speaking and listening will this be acceptable?

I've emailed HO with the query - but no response as yet!

I have got the below reply from HO.

In order to achieve a Cambridge English Preliminary (PET) qualification at B1 level, as issued by Cambridge English, applicants will need to show that they have achieved either a Pass or a Pass with Merit for this qualification having demonstrated the required competence in all 4 communicative skills i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing. Please ignore the information on the SELT list referring to weak/borderline/exceptional results.

Applicants should attach their original certificate with the application showing a Pass or Pass with Merit attainment for this qualification. This will be sufficient to demonstrate knowledge of language for settlement purposes.

This effectively means this exam requires you to pass all 4 parts to meet the listening and speaking requirement.

Will need to find an alternative exam then, do you know of an exam that tests just speaking and listening at B1?

GESE Grade 5 is 10 minutes exam with just Speaking & Listening involved. Costs £125. Ongoing thread here - http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=941919

Dear All

My wife passed the PET exam at 80/100 but did not get borderline on listening, just missed it.

Can you let me know if that will be OK for ILR or if we will need to re take the test and apply for further Leave?
