Varying application from Tier1(Gen) Extn to ILR Set(O)

Hi all
I have my current visa expiring on 8 May 2014 but my initial grant was on 25 Jun 2009 so I was short of about a month.
Can I apply for extension on 7 May 2014 and while that application is still under progress, can I vary my application to SET (O), as soon as I reach within 28 days of 25 Jun 2014?
If so, please could you provide any pointers or links that have all the relevant information about varying an application.
