Absence from UK letter Query.

Hi All,
Thanks for proving helping hand to all.
My question to members of the forum is,
If I am applying for ILR and do not have more then 120 continuous days of absence. Do I have to provide Letter from my previous employees? I have never been out of country for more then 40 days at once. I have been to home only during my holidays but I have chnged few jobs and Do not have contact with the employees.
If I write a personal letter stating my absence. Will that be enough?
Please provide guidance and let me know if Anyone has just given personal letter and got the ILR.
Thanks for reading and replying. All the best to people applying!
