Hi Guys,

I will be applying my ILR under 10 years in mid of August and my Driving license is expiring in end of September. I need to provide DVLA my Passport or Biometric Resident permit to renew my license. According to DVLA if someone dont renew his license on time then he may get a penalty of £1000. They usually send reminder before expiry of License which i have not received yet.

If i apply my ILR first then by the time i get my documents back my licence will be expired and if i send my Biometric card or Passport to DVLA now it may get stuck or lost with them which i dont want at this time.

I have all my passports to cover the last 10 years and dont want any kind of problem right now. I am scared to send my documents to DVLA as i want to apply my ILR in 2 months with out any problem.

I have full driving License but i dont drive.

Guys.. I need your suggestion please what should i do in these circumstances..

Thanks

Hi
First of all you don't need to worry mate. If you are applying for ILR on the basis of 10 years long residence, you don't need to send your driving license with your application. All you need is
Application form completed
Two passport size pictures with ur name written on the back
All your passports covering 10 years
Biometric residence permit card
Life in the UK test pass certificate
English degree or certificate to for language

Now come to your driving license renewal. You will get a renewal notice letter roughly about 2 months before expiry, you don't need to send your passport to DVLA to renew your driving license. There are two ways to renew your Driving License.
1. Send your driving license by post to DVLA Swansea in a prepaid envelop when you receive your renewal letter including a cheque of 20 pounds payable to DVLA and your recent picture.
2. When you receive the renewal letter you can go to any participating Post Office where they can process your Renewal for a charge of 4.50 extra plus 20 pounds including postage and picture.

You will get the renewed driving licence within one week of applying and there is no need of sending your passport with it.

I hope that helps u.
