Please Advise.. Short Visa Extension Required

My partner needs a 3 month extension to his Tier 4 Student Visa as I am pregnant and due 1 month (Sept) after his visa expiry (Aug). We aim for him to be able to extend his stay for 3 months (till Nov) so that he can be present for the birth of our child and also so we have enough time to apply for babys passport and to travel back to his home country together with baby being immunized and strong enough to travel. (I am a British citizen).

My question here is that I have been advised by solicitors that although the best option is for him to return back to his country and apply again on a visit visa, the other reasonable option appears to be an extension of leave to remain on FLR(O). I understand it is a private family related reason however I cannot see any other visa options available. We do not wish to live in the UK and simply want this short extension, I was wondering whether anyone has any advice on which other visas options would be suitable [please note we do not meet the £18/19,000 salary requirement for spouse visas and the other FLR(M/FP) routes].

Also we are dealing with the application ourselves and I would like to know what supporting documents you would suggest submitting? I do have a letter from my midwife stating he is my main support and the importance of him being present for the birth..

Thanks in Advance, N.
