I entered in the UK in July 2007 on student visa. I am now on Tier 2 general visa which is going to expire in Feb 2017. There is gap of four months to complete 10 years rule for ILR.
is there possibility that i can apply for ILR or i need to apply for extension of tier 2.
Hopefully hear from you soon ......

i need to apply for extension of tier 2
This one.
If you apply for ILR and don't meet the 10 years requirement, your application is likely to be refused and you will lose your fee.

The duration of leave is specified by the Rules in force at the time, not by your choice. I believe currently that (assuming that you meet the requirements) the current Tier 2 extensions are for two years.
