Hey WR1,

I had done ESOL LEVEL 1&2. Can I use for my ilr long residency? ?

Both certificates issue by city & Guild college.

I really appreciate if u could provide any advice and suggestions.

It doesn’t matter if the B1 level test you took isn’t on the list of recognised tests now. You don’t need to take another test.

Have you used the ESOL in a previous application. If not, then No, you will need an English from the current SELT.

If yes, then I'm not too sure even though in above link I provided it state:

Applying to settle in the UK

You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if you’re applying to settle in the UK and it was accepted for another UK immigration application, eg when you got permission to enter.


It doesn’t matter if the B1 level test you took isn’t on the list of recognised tests now. You don’t need to take another test.

However, the ILR forms do not provide a provision or an option like the Naturalisation form does where English has already been demonstrated before.

Personally, for the peace of mind I would just do another English test from the current SELT just to be on the safe side. Not worth risking £1500 (or £1875 from April 2016) application fee for the sake of a £150 English test.

Thank u very much for ur detail reply. I am ready to do new test but the problem is that my passport and BRP kept by home office because visa was refused and case is in tribunal. I checked from trinity college their requirement to book the test have or show valid id which I didn't have in my hand.

Previously I didn't use esol certificates so it's clear I need to pass new test.

Anyway once again appreciated ur help and valuable comments.
