ILR continuous residency start

Hi,
I would like to apply for ILR. I have came to the UK on 13th of january 2012. But my visa was issued around mid december 2011. I would like to apply as early as possible.
I would like to double check that I can count the 5 years continuous residency from the date the entry clearance was issued. I can also apply within in 28 days from that date. Is that correct.
I don't want my ILR to be refused by applying too early. Thank you

It would help if you stated what visa you have or have had

Different rules apply to different visas and you need to be precise with your dates, ie visa start date.

You can count from date of entry clearance.
Thank you very much for your help.
I would like to check again though. I was reading on another thread yesterday. There is something I couldn't understand about the continuous residency. There was a talk about whether you have changed your visa during the 5 years, and also what is the reason for applying early.
I have changed my visa several times during my stay. But all my visas has been T2G. I have not have to leave the country to apply for a new visa.
What kind of reason do I need to apply early?
would you be able to clarify these two points for me please.
thank you

Where on the form does it ask you to explain why you change visas/sponsors often??
You are not applying early. The rules permit applying as I have indicated.
