Which ILR Route Can I Take?

I currently am eligible for ILR through the 10 year long residency route, however I might have too many absences to qualify at the moment. But I will have been on a Tier 2 (General) visa for 5 years at the end of 2017, making me eligible to apply for ILR via the 5 year working route if I wait.

However, after talking to an immigration lawyer, they told me that I can only apply for ILR depending on the visa I initially came into the UK with (which was a student visa) - meaning the 5 year route would not work, since I didn't initially come into the UK that way.

Is this true? I haven't seen anything that states this elsewhere.

Thanks!

Rubbish. :!: You can apply for ILR under the 5 year route as soon as you qualify on your current visa.

I thought it was - but thanks for confirming.

Also confirms I'm not going with that immigration lawyer moving forward then!
