How to get a replacement ILR?

I need to get a replacement document to prove that I already have the right to remain in the UK..

I sent my old passport to be renewed (I sent it around about 1981) with the a form of residency documentation in it, but it was lost by the embassy.

Could anyone suggest how I might proceed.

Would the nationalarchives be the best place to look and obtain this info. Or do I need to apply to the Home Office for a duplicate?

A few other bits of extra info for you....

1) I was born in Trinidad in 1962 before independence from the UK
2) I came to the UK in 1976 and have been here ever since and have never left.
3) I was issued with a National Insurance number just before my 16th Birthday
5) I have automatically been able to vote in all elections and have worked in the employ of local government and the MOD.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated thank you.....

You should do a subject access request to Home Office, see link below, to understand exactly what 'form of residency document' you had.

I would be pleasantly surprised if they find any records on you.
