ILR - Tier 2 General - Which form to use for spouse

Hi
I completed 5 yrs in UK, on Tier 2 General visa, and I'll be applying for my ILR through premium service next week.
My wife and my two kids (below 16 yrs) are with me in UK for more than 5 years, and even they are eligible for ILR.
Our current visa expires on Oct 8, 2017.
We are travelling to India during summer holidays and we will return on Aug 29th. I plan to apply for my wife's and kids' ILR by post (as it will be expensive to apply through premium service for them as well).
Couple of questions in this matter:
1. Which form should I use for my wife and kids' application? - SET (O) or SET(M)?
2. If I apply in through post on Aug 30th or so, they will get ILR only after 3 or 4 months. By that time, the current visa expires (by Oct 8th). Will that be a problem?
3. When we apply through post, we have to submit the passports and biometric permits. When will we get them back? Will we get them back only after ILR has been approved and new biometric permits are issued?
Thanks.
