Tier2 to ILR salary jump 38%

Hi,

I have been underpaid by my employer ( still qualifying under the SOC code) and they’ve given me a pay rise to 36k. My ILR is coming up in 6 months time and after reading the forums, I get that the SMS system has to be updated. Would the explanation that ‘the employee was not being paid the market rate to reflect their qualifications and skills and have been promoted to a mid level position’ be enough to satisfy the jump?

My pervious pay increases have been meagre, and have been quite heavily underpaid and they said they’ll wanted to correct this. Any advice will be much appreciated. I just don’t want to make any mistakes that would jeopardise my application.

To be honest, HO are very aware of and often investigate these 'sudden large increases' shortly before ILR for Tier 2 visa holders and many ILR applications are held for further enquiries.

38% is substantial and HO will want to know if anyone else in the company got the same level of increase and why you are only being paid your 'worth' now and not the whole time you were employed and sponsored. If you have been 'under paid', it might bring into question whether your job was a 'genuine job/vacancy'.

What is your SOC code?
