Refugee married to a Citizen Waiting Period for ILR?

Hello
I hold a refugee status for about 2 years and 7 months, I have a British partner and we want to get married, but the issue is that I was told that if you get married as a refugee you need to switch to a spouse visa form, but more than that, your 5 years settlement period towards ILR will start again!!
This sounds frustrating and maybe discouraging from getting married since it looks like the 2 years and 7 months of the 5 years ILR period were wasted, and also what will happen in the future if our marriage breaks? will I be returned to the refugee limited leave to return and start again the 5 years clock?
Please can you help with your knowledge?
