My Son's BRP card on Settlement/ILR expired a Yr ago

My Son's BRP card expired an yr ago we forgot to renew it... Since we r planning holiday to India now then only realized about ....We r in a big shock don't know what to do now...plz help us...its Urgent plz

One more question Plz help me.... Do I need to renew BRP card first or directly I can apply for Red passport for my son...Plz if any one had experienced same plz help me it's a big worry for us....
