Trial run for SET(M)

Hi, as we approach our time to apply for SET(M), I already have questions! I want to do a dummy run with the application form. Can I set up an account, have a look at the questions but ultimately discard it and start a new application? I believe you can edit any answers on the form before submitting? Also, I notice that, even before you can start the application, it asks if you are using an immigration adviser and, if so, their email address. Would that mean that contact from HO after submission of the application and thereafter, would go directly to the adviser/solicitor rather than to the applicant? We would not want that as we want to be the first point of contact from HO. Could someone advise please?

Yes you can run a dummy application and discard it later if you want. You can save the application and “return to application” at any point in time to edit it etc. I would assume if you have a solicitor/representative, then all correspondence will go to him/her first.
The date of online application submission is the date of application so make sure you only submit and pay your application when you are in the qualifying period.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I would be very careful not to submit before the date of eligibility. The inclusion of the solicitors email making them the first point of contact would bother me but I would think that honesty would make it necessary to include their name if employing one.

If you wont include their name then how would HO know you are being represented by a solicitor? And if you dont want them to have the correspondence then why hire them in the first place?

It’s not a problem with the solicitor being contacted but I would just worry they might be on leave or out of office when HO has news for us, or request for more information!

This question apparently appears on the SET(M) form. Even though my husband will have actually lived here for 4 years 11 months, allowing for the 28 days before the 5th Anniversary eligibility, do we put that or do we put 5 years, please?

You can put the exact time lived. HO knows the rules and the 28 days concession etc.

Cannot move on from entering maiden name of partner SET(M)

We are preparing my husband’s SET(M) form but are now stuck. At one point it asks if the partner (me) has, or has ever had, another name and that it includes a maiden name. So, I click Yes , Save and Continue, and arrive at the page where I enter my maiden name, Save and Continue and it takes me right back to the previous page where it asks if the partner has, or has had, any other name! Has anyone else encountered this problem, please?

People can have more than one previous name/names. Just put your maiden name once. It will ask again do you have any more previous names. Do “no” second time. It should work. It just gives you more than one previous name/names option.

Thank you SO much! I have now removed all my extra maiden name entries!

We have now reached the end of the Application section of the Application form and it gives you an opportunity to review your answers and edit if necessary before continuing to the next section which is Finance. I know I have been assured that one can edit the entire form until such time as it is submitted but I want to make doubly sure before we continue. Providing a review of our answers at this point makes it look like a final chance to edit that section. Any assurance would be much appreciated.

You can edit the form before you submit. Every time you exit make sure you “save and continue” that section and when you exit through the “return to application” link. The link will be sent to your email for future log ins.

Thank you for the assurance! You really are very helpful! Another question has arisen! Having entered the amount of savings in our account for the past six months, we get a response 'Please enter a number' ! Is there a particular format for this entry? I am putting it as xx,xxx.xx. I have even tried other numbers but none are accepted.

I dont think you can have , or . just state the number like 1234567

Have not tried that format as yet but have yet another question! We answered 'yes' to 'do you have any children? ' because we have two, but as they are 44 and 50, I am not sure we should have answered yes. I am hoping that having done so, we will not be asked for birth certificates etc in the Document section! The question did not state children under 18, as I think previous applications have done. Should we edit to 'No' if they are really referring to children under eighteen, please?

Is the question asking “dependent children” or just children? If just children keep it “yes”. The form won't ask about their birth certificates as its irrelevant to your case.

I’m pretty sure it just asked about children, not dependent children, so I will leave it as it is. I will check it out. Thank you again!
