Long Residence or FLR M for ILR?

Hello!
I came to the UK on a student visa in 2008 and was on a Tier 4 visa until 2015. I then got married and got a spouse visa. I believe that as of last September (2018) I qualified for ILR because I would have been in the country on a valid visa for 10 years. However, I do not yet qualify for ILR under my spouse visa which is a 5 year route (which I have had for 3.5 years)
Does anyone know if I can still apply for ILR based on my 10+ years in the country even though I am on a FLR M 5 year route? If so, is there any reason why I should or shouldn't wait until I finish the 5 year route on my FLR M visa?
Thank you!
