Can I apply for ILR

I am currently on a 2.5 year leave to remain, my son is a British citizen and got my visa approved through him. I’m his sole parent and he does not see his father. I have been in the uk since 1996 and in 1998 witnessed a crime and was in witness protection. The police took my passport and from 1998 I thought I had a a visa. I went to Glasgow to court with home office and my lawyer present and was then granted 2.5 years. Can I apply for ILR now being as I have lived continually supporting myself and legal guardian to my son? Any help would be appreciated, my leave to remain runs out in March and my lawyer said last time I could have applied for the 5 years but as I didn’t have the 3 grand required I opted for the 2.5 years.

So you’ve been here for more than 20 odd years.
Didn’t the state afford you with any sort of regular monetary compensation since you were turning in state evidence. The state should have helped with ur stay in UK a little more. Anyways.
What is ur exact immigration history from the beginning to now with dates.

I came in 1996 was a over stayer then witnessed that crime. I wasn’t aware I didn’t have a right to live here as the police said they would sort my documentation. Applied for a leave to remain in 2015 and given 2.5 years. I tried contacting the relevant police and all seem to have retired and moved on from their posts so couldn’t get documentation to say I had been in witness protection to use for home office. Any suggestions on what to apply for in March?

You first need to check your Home Office letters to determine if your visa was issued on the 5 year or 10 year route.

If on the 10 year route FLR(FP), you have 2 more extensions to go before you can apply for ILR.

The above doesn’t not make sense. Are you and overstayer again? Am I supposed to guess ur situation?
What was the name of the last visa you applied for? FLR(fp)?
Again I repeat.. state ur exact immigration history with dates.
Edit: and what CR001 has advised.

I have a leave to remain on a 10 year parental route. I have to apply next year hence seeking advice as to what I can apply for next year.

You cannot apply for ILR after 5 years on the visa route as you are not on the 5 year route.

You have to wait the 10 years before you can apply. So you need another extension for a further 2.5 years and then another one for another 2.5 years before you can apply for ILR in 2025.

This is assuming you have so far already had 2 x 2.5 year visas and always applied for an extension in time.
