Lost passports previous and current - ILR upcoming application

Hi all,

This situation is regarding my wife’s unfortunate situation. She currently on a FLR M visa and has been since March 2017, she’s on her extension currently and will be completing her ILR SET M in 2022.

Her previous passport had expired in July (This was a 5 year passport), she had an appointment in March with the Brazilian consulate but due to Covid 19 that had to be put on hold. She finally sent off for her Brazilian passport in July and had paid for the postage to go there and be sent back to our address, it had been accepted and we waited for it to arrive. We’ve tracked the package and the Royal Mail have seemed to have lost it with no explanation and very little sympathy.

She provided her Brazilian ID, previous passport and birth certificate, so these items were meant to come back, so she can use this for ILR use (especially the passports). But now they’re lost.

I’ve looked at the guidance and it’s shown that she needs to provide her previous passport that she has entered the U.K. with. Obviously she can’t do that, so how does she go about this?

Is it simply a covering letter needed, explaining what happened.
Or does she need to provide more evidence? Is it worth to get P60’s, A SAR report? And will she have to get evidence from her employers that she has been in the country and working in this allotted time frame and an absence list from her employer or could She write down all the times she had left the country.

I’m not sure if anyone has had this problem before?

She’s used this previous passport when she applied for both FLR M visas.

Currently she’s applying for her new passport, we’ve submitted a claim to the Royal Mail and have got a case number from the nearest police station about the missing passports.

If anyone has any information or a checklist that I could use to submit as evidence I would be extremely grateful.

Kind regards,

James

If she has the copy or even the image of previous passports then can be uploaded since nothing is sent in original to anywhere.

Yes she does have a scanned image of her previous passport photo page. Is that enough evidence? I’m sure they only account for original copies.

I’m planning on doing the cover letter of course and explains in detail what has happened.

As stated earlier, there wouldn't be any need of original document rather only its scanned E-version. Notwithstanding, you would always need the valid passport at the time of application as well as the cohabitation evidences covering the last 2 years, which apart of corroborating your relationships will essentially also confirm her residence as well.

Ok sounds promising then, in terms of the cohabitation evidence I have tons.
Thanks for the info.
