ILR- not sure the best time to apply

Hello there,
My initial Tier 2 start date is 14 Feb 2018.
Current skilled worker visa expires 22 Dec 2022.
My eligible date to apply for ILR will be 17/18 Jan 2023. I am 26 days short until i reach the 28days eligible period to apply for my ILR.
I am just wondering which will be my best option (financially and time wise):
1. extend visa for another 6 months and apply for ILR? 2. apply for ILR before my current visa expires and book a biometric appointment after 18 Jan 2023?
Many thanks in advance.

The relevant date for you is from 30th January 2018 which was your visa approval date.
Your 5yrs for ILR will be 30th January 2023 however you can apply 28days before reaching 5yrs in UK.
Therefore eligibility to apply for ILR presuming all requirements met is 2nd January 2023.

Hello, many thanks for your advise.
As my current visa expires 22nd Dec 2022, do you think it’s alright for me to apply for ILR few days before and book biometric appointment after 2nd Jan 2023?
I’ve been residing in UK under Tier 4 visa prior to my initial Tier 2 visa approval date on the 30th Jan 2018.
Many thanks in advance.

This is covered almost everyday on this forum. Yes you can and should. Apply as you rightly mentioned a few days before your visa expires, and have you biometrics done anytime after that, when you actually do qualify.

Hi Ya,
May I check if I can calculate the 5 years period backward from my date of application of my first Tier 2 visa? I've received payment confirmation for my first work visa application on the 27th Dec 2017, may I check if I can apply for ILR from 28th Nov 2022?
Many thanks in advance.

No you can't. It doesn't work like that.
Your qualifying period starts from the date your initial tier 2 visa was issued/granted.
The date you applied is completely irrelevant.

Hi Good Afternoon,
I've read this information on gov.uk document:
Calculating the specified continuous period
"Applicants can submit a settlement application up to 28 days before they would
reach the end of the specified period.
You must calculate the relevant qualifying period by counting backward from
whichever of the following is most beneficial to the applicant:
• the date of application
• the date of decision
• any date up to 28 days after the date of application"
Does it mean the date of application is not applicable?
Many thanks in advance.

It is the date of application for ilr and not the date you initial applied for a visa. It does clearly state "counting backwards" and refers to applying for settlement.

Alright, okay. So, I will just apply for ILR before my current visa expires and attend biometric appointment when I am in the qualifying period (28 days prior to my visa approval letter's date) as discussed in previous posts?
Many thanks in advance.

Can I please ask if I apply for ILR before my visa expiry date (22nd Dec 2022) and attend biometric permit within 28 days of my qualifying period (early of Jan 2023), do I need to prepare a cover letter and provide information that my first visa approval letter was issued 30th Jan 2018?
Many thanks in advance.

Hello there,
I’ve been with my current company for more than 1.5 year now.
I’m just wondering if I need to obtain a letter from my previous employer for absences for ILR application? (I’ve not been out of UK for more than 180 days py).
I am not confident that I’ll be getting a response from my previous employer at all.
Help please, thanks very much in advance.

Your passport is your evidence. It gets stamped every time you enter the UK. That would suffice.
