ILR Application (Global Talent – UKRI Route) + Dependant Visa Timeline Question

Hello,
I’m seeking clarification on a few points regarding my upcoming ILR application under the Global Talent visa (UKRI route) and my wife’s status as a dependant.
My situation:
1. I am from India and I’m currently on a Global Talent visa (UKRI route) and will complete 3 years on 7th September 2025.
2. I plan to apply for ILR shortly after that date.
3. My wife is on a Global Talent Dependant visa and has been in the UK with me for 1.5 years.
4. I have the Visas and Nationality Service letter from ECCTIS confirming both my PhD and English proficiency.
My questions:
1. Besides the ECCTIS letter and life in the UK test, what other documents are required for my ILR application under this route? Is the ECCTIS letter enough to prove my English Proficiency?
2. When I switch to ILR, will my wife’s time as a Global Talent Dependant continue to count toward her own ILR eligibility (after 5 years)? Or does she need to start a new 5-year period as an ILR Dependant, our current visa is expiring on 24/01/2026?
Any guidance or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

1. Yes, the letter from Ecctis confirming that the qualification meets the required standard and was taught in English can be used.
2. Your wife continues as Global Talent dependant until she is eligible for ILR. Further visa renewals are done as GT dependant, there is no such thing as ILR dependant.

Thanks for the reply.
I’ll be applying for ILR in September 2025. Once I’m granted ILR, I’ll no longer hold a valid Global Talent visa, so my wife can’t extend as a Global Talent dependant after 24/01/2026.
I think she’ll need to switch to the partner of a settled person to stay in the UK, but I am not sure whether her time as a Global Talent dependant will still count toward the 5-year ILR requirement.

The immigration rules allow dependants to extend if rhe main visa holder has ILR!! It will be a 3 year extension.
There is no requirement to change visa categories.

I don't have ILR atm but I will be eligible in September 2025. My global talent visa is expiring on 24/01/26, so as for my wife as a dependant. So, when I switch to ILR, will my wife’s time as a Global Talent Dependant (1.5 years spent on this visa) continue to count toward her ILR eligibility? Or does she need to start a new 5-year period as a partner of an ILR holder?

She continues to extend her gt dependnet visa before it expires, after you have ilr. It is a 3 year extension for her.
Her 5 year route to ilr does NOT change!!
She does NOT change visa route!!

Yes, she continues being a GT dependant and extend her visa under the same route even after you get ILR.

No, she stays on the same visa route as advised.

You mean she can extend as a Global Talent dependant after I apply for ILR or before I apply for ILR? If there is no longer a “main visa holder” for my wife to be a dependant of when I switch to different visa (ILR), how can she remain on a global talent dependant visa?
I am not sure, but I think she has to switch to the FLR(M) route — the visa for the partner of a settled person from a global talent dependant. Please suggest.

No. The switch is NOT necessary at all. They can stay or extend under their current route as you have been advised. They should not move to the family route
ILR eligibility from Skilled worker+global talent (UKRI) visa

Hello
I started my job on a skilled worker visa from 8 September 2022 and continued until 31/12/2024, and on 24/01/2025 I got a global talent visa through the UKRI endorsed route within the UK, which is expiring on 24/01/2026, so am I eligible for ILR in August/September 2025 when I complete my three years of job?
Any guidance or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You're eligible for ILR under the GT route on your first work visa approval date + 3 years - 28 days. Your other post suggests that you already knew this.
The date you started working is less relevant.

Thanks for clarification. I knew that but I wanted to be sure whether this combined visa (skilled+global) will be considered after 3 years (28 months on skilled and 8 months on Global)or not for my ILR application. I was confused. Thanks again.
