ILR for child – is SET(F) (Apply as a child – family visa) the correct form?

Hi everyone,

I’m a British citizen by naturalisation (previously on a Global Talent Visa). My wife was also on a GTV and has recently been granted ILR.

Our son’s visa is now expiring, and I’m applying for his ILR. From what I understand, the correct route is “Apply as a child (family visa)” using the SET(F) form.

However, while completing the form I’ve come across some questions that are making me doubt if I’ve chosen the right application type. For example, it asks about “Other reasons for wanting to stay in the UK” and about the “best interests of any children.”

Could anyone confirm if I am indeed completing the correct form for a child applying in line with parents who are settled (one British citizen and one ILR holder)? And are these questions standard for SET(F), or does it sound like I may have selected the wrong category?

Many thanks for your help.

Ideally, the child should have been included in your wife's ILR application. However, the form SET(F) is the correct form for the child now. Note that you do NOT need to answer 'Other reasons for wanting to stay in the UK' at all as the child normally qualifies for ILR

Can I reschedule UKVCAS biometric appointment (for ILR) after the deadline?

Hi everyone,

I’ve booked my son’s (12 years old) biometric appointment for his ILR application before the deadline stated in the Home Office letter. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend on that date as the accompanying adult, and the next available appointments are all after the deadline.

Does anyone know how strictly UKVCAS or UKVI enforce these deadlines? Has anyone been able to attend a biometric appointment after the official deadline without their application being invalidated?

Also, is there an email address or direct contact for UKVCAS or UKVI where I can request a deadline extension or deferral for the biometric appointment?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi,

Please let me know.
would really appreciate if anyone who’s faced a similar situation could share their experience or outcome. Did UKVCAS/UKVI allow attendance after the stated biometric deadline?

Thanks, Zimba.

The deadline I’m referring to is the one shown on the official UK Visas and Immigration (https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/) website after submitting the ILR application.

Under the “Further actions you must complete” section, it says:

“Attend an appointment to provide your documents and biometrics by 07 November 2025.”

That’s the date I’m trying to clarify — whether it’s strictly enforced or if there’s any flexibility to attend slightly later when no earlier appointments are available.

The application procedures tell you that you need to book a biometrics appointment within 45 working days after your application online submission. There is no specific requirement, so I'd say if you book it a bit later you are unlikely to face an issue. Often UKVI sends you a reminder if you go over the deadline
