Hi all,
Please clarify:
When counting days of absences from UK, one looks at the passport stamp.
On travel to India sometimes one arrives after midnight ( for example 2 am on 2/12/09), thus date of stamp on passport is a day ahead of one's travel date from UK( for example 11 am 1/12/09).
Is it okay to take the stamp date on passport( 2/12)or should one take the day earlier when one left UK (1/12)?

Please advise, as many of my stamps may be like this but one doesnt remember them all.

When calculating 'absent days' you don't count the day of departure from the UK or the day of arrival back into the UK.
Technically you were present in the UK on the day of departure and the day of your return.

Youre right but that is not what I asked. How do you confirm the day of departure from UK-by looking at the stamp of arrival, if you have gone to India. This could be 2/12, and you would have left UK on 1/12. What travel date do you take, since there is no stamp of 1/12?
I only ask because you may not recollect your date of departure from UK and only have the India stamp on your passport to remember that trip.
