I know it is early days of this new Government, but does anybody have any idea if they think it likely that the new laws will come into effect earlier than July 2011 (if they come in at all or get drastically changed??).

My husbands ILR is due Feb 2011. I am worried that if they move it forward he will not be eligible under the current system that was meant to be in place until July 2011.

Any theories??

I think that is highly unlikely as it the Lib dems and to an extent the Tories who opposed the initial bill with respect to changes to citizenship rules implementation

Do you mean that you think it unlikely that they will change the rules or unlikely that that they will leave the current legislation in place?

I have just had a look at UKBA, it seems that all mentioning to earned / probational citizenship etc is gone - it sounds as a good sign for me. But, let us just be patient for some time - in a couple of days or week all should become clear...

Speculating one way or the other is not going to help, is it? Be patient, you'll know how things pan out when the policy is announced by the new government.

Remember that "Earned Citizenship" is now a law and any changes to it will require parliamentary approval (and therefore time).

This is correct. However, an exact date of its implementation is in hands of the government, hence the time. Moreover, the two parties were against that "earned citizenship" idea and now they have the absolute majority, so that the approval (of whatever) is effectively reduced to a technical act (once an agreement between the two has been reached).

But you are certainly right - let us just wait a bit and see...
