ILR employment letter query

I'm due to submit my ILR application in a week. The only issue is that my employment contract ends at the end of this month (Oct 2010). My employer is unwilling to provide me with a letter that does not explicitly state the end date. In your experience, is this likely to cause a problem?
For information, I work in academia where short-term contracts are increasingly the norm! I've been on a work permit for the past 5 years.
Any advice would be appreciated.
