Hello all,

Recently passed Life In the UK exam and have an appointment on Nov 22nd at Liverpool. The documents that are needed seem to be confusing me a bit.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My husband and myself has a joint account so thinking of showing 4 months of bank statements with both our names.

remaining documents like Mortgage statements, council tax statements(which are in both our names),gas bills(which are in my name),Phone bills(which are in my name)are quarterly bills cos of direct debit payment! How should I put these documents together to show that we have been living together.

Does the bills like credit card statements, fixed bonds,e-saving statements can also be shown as proof of living at the same address? Thanks!

When i did my 6 documents as proof of address i used my quarterly bills but i used the date the bill was issued to us ie the small date written on the bill then i spread then over the 2 yr peroid. You can use credit card statements as proof of address if you wish also any letters like National insurance number letter, driving license etc...

all 6 have to be in joint names?

i think i read here before that 6 documents from 3 different sources. Does that means i can have 2 in joint names and rest 4 individual names? usually bills only come in one name, why would someone put both names together in bills and if i want to now put my wife's name there with me, the utilities may not agree and also they are going to be very recent, not spread over the whole 2 year period.

Also how spread out they need to be?

No, they don't all have to be joint, anything that is addressed individually to you both at the same address will be accepted.

In answer to your second question, yes, you can have 2 joint and 4 individual.

6 over 2 years, so you can start at the beginning of the 2 years and space the documents evenly over 24 months. I'm supplying more than 6 for my application - roughly one document for every 2-3 months, but as the guidance is only 6, if you stick to that, it's within the guidance, but just make sure they're spaced out as evenly as possible to show residence at the same address for the full period.

Hope that helps! :)

This is how I organised my file. I basically put everything in order of the form so it was easier to read and put the papers in plastic sleeves

Section 1 - Application form with the bankers draft attached, bankers draft is so much easier as you are not watching to see when the money leaves your account bankers draft is 100 guaranteed payment - remember to take a copy of the cheque

Section 2 - Pass Notification Letter Life in The UK Decree Absolute and Marriage Certificate

Section 3 - Rent/Mortgage Agreement Deeds payment of rent/mortgage

Section 4 - Payslips and P60's

Section 5 - Anything relating to tax national insurance payments (for my husband as he is Self Employed)

Section 6 - Bank Statements in date order remember they only need to the last three (Husband)

Section 7 - Bank statements x 3 (Me)

Section 8 - Joint bills for me and my husband spread evenly between October 2008-October 2010 and put in date order

Section 9 - My hospital letters

Section 10 - Letters addressed to my husband over the two year period in date order

Section 11 - Letters addressed to me over the two year period in date order

Best to provide more and let them have a good selection as to what they want to use. They only used the following of my documents

Letter from Metropolitan Police in relation to an incident whereby Husband was assaulted last year
Water bill (joint) 2009
Gas Bill (joint) 2009
British Gas Service Agreement (joint) 2009
Council Tax Bill (joint) 2010
Electric Bill (joint) 2010
British Gas Service Agreement (joint) 2010
TV Licence (me) 2010

it is also advisable to make copies of everything you are providing
make two big folders 1 of the originals , and 1 of the copies
in my case i tried bankers draft unfortunately the bank can not print my full name on it , they just printed first name and half the surname !!!!!!!!i had to cancel bankers draft and choose postal order an other way to avoid any problems on the the day

Thanks all for your replies.Greatly appreciated!

I am thinking of putting the following documents with my application

I got FLR(M) in Dec 2008

My documents from that date

1)End of the year Mortgage statement which has both our names on it.
2)Council Tax bill which we received in March 2009 and has both our names
3)My husband's credit card statements(how many months?)
4)Gas and electricity bills which are in my name which were sent to me quarterly
5)End of year Mortgage statement in 2009
6)Bank statements which are in both our names(last 6 months)
7)Home Insurance documents

Are these enough?Or do we have to show the proof for every single month

Extra I could add are my e-savings,fixed bonds or instant savings letters, just sold our house so a letter confirming that from estate agents or solicitors,my husband had a surgery last year and follow up letters I could add those.

Thanks so much!!
