I'm applying for ILR in just over 30 days (as WP holder).

When is the earliest I should be asking my employer for the letter (i.e. is the letter dated 30 days before the interview date acceptable)?

there is no specific rule but by common sense .. more recent the better. in my case i got my employment letter dated 3 days before appointment if that helps.

I thought so (as no mention of this is the guidance).

Was hoping for some experienced forum members to be able to estimate what is the acceptable age of such document.

I'm asking this as am suspicions that my company may try to force me into a contract in order to provide this letter. For that reason I'd like to have in my possession it asap.

Its generally good to have the letter dated within the last 30days however the reason there is no guidelines is because you will be showing proof for salary earned in the past few months and if its the same employer its clear that the employer letter is still valid as they are still paying you a salary.
I personally believe that as long as the letter is from the employer who is currently paying your salary and its not more than a few months it should be fine - but its always best to avoid room for doubt and get it as close to your application date as possible.
In my case, letter is about 2 months old

Another potential problem has cropped up

I have misplaced my original bank statements.

Would certified printouts do instead (ie normally I'd just go to the branch and ask them to do a printout and stamp it)?

How far back should the printout go (3m, 6m... 12m)?

Print outs from bank, on headed paper and signed will do. Normally they ask for 3 months of statements.

I've come up with another potential problem - this time regarding absences


My list of absences is quite detailed and the total is well bellow the maximum allowed (i've been out of the UK for 162 days in past 5 years).

However I've been using IRIS system for the past few years and have almost no UK immigration stamps in my passport.

Could that cause a problem (no stamps to corroborate my absence list)?

Mind you I did get stamped each time I entered or left any other country - so technically my travel could be reconstructed (sort of) from those.

Any advice?

Apparently you get detailed travel log from IRIS themselves

It takes 15 working days though - hopefully I'll get the list before my appointment

You can always asks bank to re-issue you the statement from beginning. that is for the charge though. I bank with natwest and had the same problem When i went with the printouts the customer advisor informed me that they have stopped stamping the printouts and i will have to order the statements from back... nominal charge.. but by doing so i got the statement from day1.

I bank with Barclays. They were happy to stamp & sign the printouts (which I made, using the banking machine in the lobby) about 2 months ago.

I just wasn't sure if these are acceptable for SET(O).

I stand corrected!

Barclays policy is not to stamp/certify bank statement printouts

It seems that some bank managers are doing this as a courtesy to customers. I'm hoping that my branch manager will be willing to help me out again.

I ordered replacement statements from Barclays. Waiting to see how that pans out.

BTW As it turned out I haven't lost my original statements - I never got them in the first place. That's because I've switched to online only statements while back and forgot about it - D'OH!!!!

Could a salary increase of 33% over 5 years cause a problem when applying for ILR, as a WP holder (in theory that's 7.5% increase per year)?

My responsibilities haven't changed. Also I had a fairly low start salary.

Current salary is 7% over the minimum as per SOC code.

i think this would be fine as your employer informed the HO about those increments in your salary ... (Technical Change)
you have not got a suddenly dramatic increment ...

30-28 = 2, hence my 4th of July appointment is in accord with the "28 day" rule.

IS A NORMAL ANNUAL INCREMENT HAVE TO BE REPORTED
I HAVE AN OVERALL INCEASE OF 31% FROM THE ORIGIONAL CONTRACT
6.25% ONCE THEN 6.25% NEXT YEAR THAN INCREASE HOLDED FOR ONE YEAR
AND RECENTLT INCREASE 17% WHICH COVERS LAST YEAR AS WELL AS THAT GOING TO BE A PROBLEM.
BECAUSE THE EMPLOYER DID NOT INFORMED THEM BY ASSUMING THIS A NORMAL INCREMENT.

Guidance says that "normal" annual salary increments don't have to be reported - but that significant increases may warrant a new application.

In other words salary increase does not fall under technical change.

It's either doesn't need to be reported - or it disqualifies you from the immigration category.

I'd like to know what does "significant increase" means in percentages...

An Immigration Advisor on another forum said that the increase shouldn't be a problem as long as the job description didn't change.

I did manage to get a summary bank statement (stamped & signed) showing the June salary going into my account.

Could this be a problem?

Why is the June payslip important? Were you being paid below the COP rate before June?

Why is the June payslip important? Were you being paid below the COP rate before June?

My salary is above the COP and has been for past 18m.

I just thought that not providing latest (as in current month) payslip may cause a problem.

Got me an ILR stamp

Interview was uneventful.

Got in 30 mins before my appointment. Made a payment, then went into the waiting room.

My number was called after about an hour.

IO started asking for documents, but I couldn't hear a word he was saying because of the noise. I just started shoving required docs down the counter drawer.

Docs submitted:
- application form
- 3 bank statements (inc stamped printout showing June salary)
- 3 pay slips (excl June payslip; salary 33% higher than the initial; with 20% raise at one point; IO did not ask for any clarification)
- passports (wp visa was in the expired one)
- employer letter (used the template from this website; HR modified it a bit)
- life in the uk test certificate
- 5 x P60
- photos
- spreadsheet w absences (175 days excl departing/arrival days; all holidays; around 40 were unpaid)

After IO reviewed the docs he said all looked fine, come back in 90 mins. After 2h I was out and about in Croydon town center with an ILR sticker in my passport.

It may be worth noting that UKBA staff were quite helpful & friendly - then again they did take £1350 of my hard earned cash for what seemed like 20 mins job
