Student for 10 year advice needed Urgent

Hi to all
i had apply my visa on the 27th of august with a college which is only Tier 4 A rating
i got respond on the 31 of august then on the 5th of september was the biometric letter i did the biometric on 15 of sept i got my visa on the 22 of sept which will expired on the 26 of feb 2013 and also it clearly say no work

i came to uk on student visa on the 5th November of 2001 in nov i will be applying for indefinate leave to remain with set 0
i would like to know when shall i do the application and also it is better to take a solicitor or by post will be fine
My employer does not know yet about my status will that cause a problem if i work for this month and in november will they check my NI

You can't work under your current status and must stop immediately. You can apply for ILR immediately but can't work will waiting for the outcome as you existing leave does not permit you to do so. You can't apply in person under the long residence category.

Because those are the rules:

Our public enquiry offices cannot consider your application if you are:

a person who has been given discretionary leave to remain or humanitarian protection;
a person with a poor immigration history;
applying for permanent residence on the basis of 10 or 14 years' residence;
applying for an extension of your visa on the highly skilled migrant programme;
a business person, innovator, sole representative or investor;
a seaman;
a Gurkha; or
an elderly dependant.

Because the rules don't allow it (34B(i)(f)).

last question i saw it someone posted in the ILR section
they send the ""police registration"" do need to do that

You would have been told that when you first applied to enter the UK all those years ago.

Well i never needed it and also my country is among the common wealth list whichis Sri Lanka
