What r the rules for 10 yrs lawful residence for ILR?

Hi all can some1 explain about 10 yrs lawful residency applying for ILR, do u have to have visa for last 10 yrs or as long as u provide residency bills u dont have to provide any visa for last 10 yrs,,,,many thanks
